Here are the top moments and takeaways from the debate:

The debate kicked off with a heated exchange on the economy.

Economy and Inflation

"I believe in the ambition, the aspirations, the dreams of the American people. And that is why I imagine and have a plan to build what I call an opportunity economy."

Abortion and Roe v. Wade

  • Kamala held Trump responsible for the reversal of Roe v. Wade, deeming it “Trump abortion bans“.

  • Trump defended the Supreme Court's decision to overturn Roe and emphasized that it rightfully returned the issue to the states.

  • He also clarified that he is not pursuing a national abortion ban.

"For 52 years, this issue has torn our country apart. And they've wanted it back in the states... I'm not in favor of a national abortion ban."

Immigration and Border Security

  • Kamala accused Trump of not supporting a border security bill to add 1,500 more border agents and tackle fentanyl trafficking.

  • Trump highlighted the influx of dangerous criminals entering the U.S. under the criminal administration.

  • Trump also criticized Harris for being the “border czar“ yet allowing the border crisis to worsen.

“That bill would have put more resources to allow us to prosecute transnational criminal organizations for trafficking in guns, drugs, and human beings.”

Foreign Policy and Wars

"She mentions about Israel all of a sudden -- she hates Israel. If she's president, I believe that Israel will not exist within two years from now. And I've been pretty good at predictions. And I hope I'm wrong about that one."

Personal Attacks and Character Questioning

Personal attacks and questioning each other’s characters were a top highlight of the debate:

  • Harris mocked the size of Trump’s rally audiences, suggesting that people should attend his rallies to experience boredom.

  • Trump fired back and called Harris a “radical left liberal“ who made policies destructive to the country.

  • Both candidates called each other weak on national security.

“She is destroying this country. If she becomes president, this country doesn’t have a chance of success... we’ll end up being Venezuela on steroids.”

Were the Debate Moderators Biased?

  • The debate host, ABC News, live fact-checked claims by both candidates’ statements for exaggerated answers.

  • The moderators fact-checked and corrected Trump four times. However, they did not correct Harris even once during the debate.

  • They corrected Harris’s claims later on the internet after the debate was over.

  • This led to an uproar among Republicans over biased ABC moderators.

Public Reaction and Perception

  • There is a huge contrast in public reaction to this debate from the Biden-Trump debate.

  • Republicans and Trump supporters are arguably in defense mode, hailing the debate as “three vs one“ against Trump.

  • Democrats are in an upbeat mood after a considerably superior debate show-up by Kamala than Biden.

Who Won the Debate?

  • CNN conducted a flash poll of the registered voters who watched the debate live. 63% of those voters said Harris outperformed Trump.

  • Surprisingly, voters taking part in a Fox News digital poll also said Kamala Harris won the debate.

Memes are the Real Winner

Irrespective of how things went down at the debate, the internet had a field day with memes. Here are some of the best of them:
