Trump vs Biden: The Rematch
And what that means for America and possibly The world...
Trump vs Biden, 2024 Presidential Campaign: The Rematch
After Nikki Haley recently dropped out, the stage is set for a likely Trump vs Biden rematch this year. Haley only won Vermont, denying Trump of the full sweep on “Super Tuesday”. Similarly, Biden only lost one contest in the American Samoa (a tiny US territory in the Pacific Ocean) on that day.
Who’s looking like the favourite, what will be their big talking points & how will it affect America over the next few years?
What is the left saying? In terms of jobs, Joe Biden seems to be the winner. Joe Biden's presidency saw the fastest job creation in the past three decades, compared to any other President. However, context is important as Biden’s job growth comes after widespread pandemic job loss. And there’s no surprise Biden took shots at Donald Trump: “If Donald Trump returns to the White House, all of this progress is at risk… “ Taxes have always been a big talking point, with Biden wanting to slash taxes even more — especially for working families. “President Biden is fighting to make the tax system fairer…” But as previous tax provisions (enacted by Trump) expire in 2025, whoever is elected needs to act quickly so Americans don’t see a tax hike — at a cost. Yet, Biden faces some potential issues in the election in November. Many voters aren’t happy with his approach to Israel’s war on Gaza & Palestine. Some activists encouraged voters to turn on Biden and write “uncommitted” on their ballots (video, 2:10). | What is the right saying? But for the wage growth of workers, Trump seems to beat Biden. Even before the pandemic, Trump saw wages grow under his Presidency. However, context is again important — low-wage workers lost their jobs during the pandemic, leading to a big spike in wage growth. And of course, Trump took shots at Joe Biden: “We’re gonna win this election, we have no choice. If we lose the election we’re not gonna have a country left.” Immigration has always been a big talking point for President Trump and is set to be even more important this year. He voiced concerns over the Texas Border Crisis and the tragic death of Laken Riley — who was killed by an illegal immigrant. “He [Biden] has no intention of stopping the deadly invasion…” Trump’s potential arrest will cause him many challenges too. He is facing 91 charges and some believe he could serve as President from prison — which would be a first for America. And with divided Republicans across the country, this adds to the challenge of unifying the Republican party. |
